I am always delighted to hear that my poems are being featured in speech and music festivals around the world, and particularly the Hong Kong Schools Music and Speech Festival. I have seen some of the performances online and the standard of the performances is very high indeed. Congratulations on your 70th anniversary and here's to the next 70 years.

My congratulations to everyone who has been involved in the Festival over the past seventy years – the teachers, the students, the administrators and the judges. Having the confidence and ability to speak in public remains as important a skill to develop in the digital age as it did seventy years ago. Reciting a poem from memory not only gives an opportunity for students to speak in front of an audience, but also to provide an imaginative interpretation of the poem. The festival thus encourages a creative response to poetry. Long may it continue to do so.

It’s been Radio 4’s long tradition to broadcast performances from the Music Festival. Recordings are also made available on our website, and hit rate of these archive programmes has always stayed high.
For years, RTHK has supported the Festival by offering special trophies and scholarships. More importantly, we hope participants may relive their precious on-stage memories, and listeners will be thrilled by the excitement of the refreshing performances. Happy 70th Birthday! May the joy of music-making live on for many more years to come! |
